I blog, reblog, aroblog, and talk about music and (re)blog jokes/memes.

Chronically ill people who need opioids (or any other medication) to have any sort of quality of life deserve access to their medication without doctors (and anyone else) using opioid addiction as an excuse to deny patients controlled medication for severe chronic pain. even though denying them and stopping their meds suddenly can actually lead to them self medicating and getting addicted to street drugs.

Addicts, specifically addicts with mental or physical health issues, deserve treatment and support without people blaming them for the opioid crisis and blaming them for chronic pain patients being denied opioids.

Instead of pitting chronic pain patients and addicts against each other, instead of blaming each group for the opioid crisis, how about we try to fix the broken system that is failing these people, increasing addiction rates and increasing the number of chronic pain patients who are not getting their conditions managed as they should be.

vibing a bit with this tbh. something about accepting that you don’t want (to do) something anymore.

there are pros and cons to just following randos. I’ve seen three HP fanarts this week. not too happy about it. luckily the unfollow button is almost as easily pressed as the follow button.

“Doomed by the narrative” is sexy and all but i think the narrative wanting to save a character who is utterly set on dooming themselves isnt as much of a thing and it’s so good as a concept

any account of ‘socialisation’ that acts as though people who don’t have some kind of 'identity’-based reason not to fulfil the expectations of that socialisation necessarily have a good & okay time with it is a failed account, imo

For both cis and trans people, family, peers, and mass media provide models for appropriate gendered behaviour, beginning in early childhood and extending through the life course. Learning through enactive experience occurs as individuals engage in gendered behaviour, observe how others respond, and adjust their behaviour accordingly. Early-life punishment for gender nonconformity is often regarded as a characteristically trans experience. In reality, however, not only do cis people share similar enacted experiences, but successful discouragement from gender transgression constitutes much of the cisgender phenomenon.

“work” aka “listen to a talkative farmer go on and on about Subjects and Anecdotes while hardly anything gets done because you are both distracted”

i was telling Farmer Family Friend about the pesticide research and he was like “yeah just wait til you read about the even worse ones that you need a license to apply, at agriculture seminars there are lists of pesticides and environmental and health effects and it’s,, awful stuff”

and I was like “but y'all don’t use those things”

and he was like “no everything we use is organic certified, but the thing is those things will often kill the beneficial insects as well. there was one organic pesticide we used and we noticed a ton of dead ground beetles around where we’d applied it, and ground beetles eat slugs”

and i was like “uh oh”

and he was like “yeah and when we started doing the no-till methods at first we had an increase in slugs, and we were like ‘Oh God, this isn’t going to work,’ but every year since the slug problem has decreased. It’s because it creates habitat for the ground beetles. So you don’t till the ground because that chops them up and kills them—and you see, we have grass in between the rows because that gives them cover, they need a place to hide”

and I was like “ah”

and he was like “the guy from the market I was telling you about, he identifies bugs all the time that don’t have a common name, and sometimes he finds one that hasn’t even been described yet. Bugs don’t really get studied unless there’s an immediate economic value to it.”

and I was like “yeah the ecologist at the nature center has discovered like 50 bugs that weren’t known to science”

and he was like “even wasps are really good to have around. I try not to get rid of wasp nests unless they’re right in a doorway. Some are more aggressive than others. Some of them you approach the nest and they all turn their heads and you see murder in their eyes”

and I was like “mmhmm”

and he was like “and I do kill black widows because I don’t want anybody getting bit. But spiders are really good to have”

and then we spent another hour talking about goats

I think this family’s land is the most bugful place i’ve been recently, in terms of sheer numbers of bugs you see in the soil and leaves and in the air. A lot of their farming practices are meant to maximize habitat for beneficial insects and listening to this guy talk it’s easy to see how unsustainable practices lead to pest problems, which leads to overuse of pesticides, which leads to more pest problems later.

It’s an ecosystem with a lot of parts and if your plants are getting absolutely destroyed by bugs, that can be a sign that something is out of equilibrium
